When palliative home care helps
Comfort-focused care at home can ease daily life for someone living with a serious or advanced illness, in situations like these:
- A serious or advanced illness where the goal has shifted to comfort rather than cure.
- Pain or symptoms such as breathlessness, nausea, or restlessness that need steady, attentive support between clinical visits.
- A wish to stay at home, in familiar surroundings, rather than spend long stretches in hospital.
- Family carers who are exhausted and need trusted, scheduled relief.
- Long hours when a loved one should not be alone, and quiet company matters as much as care.
- Relatives in another city who want to stay close to what is happening, day by day.
What a palliative CareGiver does
- Provides calm, attentive presence and emotional support for the patient and those around them.
- Supports comfort and positioning — gentle repositioning, pillows, and pressure-area care to ease the body.
- Helps with mouth care, skin care, and gentle personal hygiene with dignity and privacy.
- Supports prescribed pain and symptom medication where licensed, following the clinical plan set by your medical team.
- Monitors and notes comfort, pain, breathing, mood, sleep, and intake in the live care sheet at each session.
- Watches for changes and escalates concerns promptly to your nominated contact and clinical team.
- Offers respite so family carers can rest, eat, or step away knowing someone trusted is present.
- Works alongside your hospice or palliative team, never in place of them.
How SoftCare fits with your hospice or medical team
SoftCare is a marketplace that connects you with independent, verified CareGivers — it is not a hospice, does not employ CareGivers, and does not give medical advice. A CareGiver complements the doctors, nurses, and hospice team guiding care; they follow the plan those clinicians set. For any medical decision, speak with a qualified clinician. The live care sheet keeps everyone, including family elsewhere, gently informed of how each day unfolds.
Frequently asked questions
Does a SoftCare CareGiver replace our hospice or palliative team?
No. A CareGiver complements your hospice or medical team and follows the care plan those clinicians set. SoftCare is a marketplace, not a care provider, and gives no medical advice — for medical decisions, speak with a qualified clinician.
Can family who live far away stay involved?
Yes. Authorised family in another city can follow each session live through the shared care sheet, which records comfort, pain, medications, mood, sleep, and observations. You can also chat with the CareGiver free before booking.
What if something happens during a session?
Each session has a one-tap SOS button that alerts your designated contact and the SoftCare safety team. In a life-threatening emergency, call your local emergency number first.
How do we arrange ongoing visits and what does it cost?
It is free to search and book; you pay only the CareGiver's hourly rate, with a 0% platform fee. The minimum booking is 1 hour, sessions are typically 2–4 hours, and you can book up to 30 days ahead with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
